Montech x Gear Seekers King 95 Ultra - Content Makers Make a Case?

It was announced this year at Computex that Montech are releasing a limited edition version of their popular King 95 in collaboration with Gear Seekers - the Gear Seekers King 95 Ultra. Sadly we didn’t make it over to Taipei to see it in person. Montech have been kind enough to send one over to have a look at. Each case has its print number inside the back of the case, we got 007/2024! This may have led to some Bond themed shenanigans in the video!

Case Overview

The King 95 Ultra is a dual chambered mid-tower case and was one of the first cases to use a curved glass panel, which creates a smooth aesthetic at a distance. The shape does some interesting things to the studio lights, warping and distorting reflections, which makes for some interesting visuals! The curved glass and the side panel are 2 different pieces, which breaks the smooth visard a little, though the benefit is practicality. The glass on the Gear Seekers model is a little more tinted than we would like, especially if you’re using black hardware, but it does increase the saturation of any RGB lighting inside.

The most obvious change to the case is in colour, it’s now silver. When announcing the case Nick from Gear Seekers addressed this change, explaining that ‘silver is the best colour for every desk. If you have a black setup, it’s gonna work, if you have a white setup, it’s gonna work’. Though we are known to be fans of black-out builds we can see Nick’s point, and had a tough choice on whether to use black or white hardware! To compliment the case colour we have a brushed aluminium panel running top to bottom of the case, with the button surrounds instead having a polished chamfer and a subtle Gear Seekers logo at the bottom.

The King 95 Ultra comes preloaded with 6 ARGB/PWM fans, 2 x 140mm on the side (reverse blade), 3 x 120mm (reverse blade) on the bottom and 1 x 120mm set as exhaust. All the fans are pre-routed to the included fan/rgb hub which can house up to 10 RGB fans. There is also room for a 360mm radiator up top. To compliment the RGB fans there is an RGB strip running vertically up the front of the case. If all of your RGB components are connected to the hub you can use the bottom on the front of the case to control the lighting, a nice touch and one we appreciate!

In the box we have lots of accessories. Firstly we have the box of fixings, it contains spare velcros, some alternate coloured thumb screws (gold and purple) and all of the screw compartments are pre-labelled. In the second box we have an air flow focused front panel, it’s a silver curved mesh which matches the case well. We also have a storage drive mount for the bottom of the case. Using this is an unusual trade-off as you’ll have to remove the bottom fans, but it is nice to see options. Lastly there is a Gear Seekers branded graphics card support. It’s the type which unscrews to extend and has a stopper to keep the thread locked when it’s at the right height.

Why Did We Choose This Hardware?

The Montech x Gear Seekers King 95 Ultra makes a statement as soon as you enter the room. It is bold, its curved lines and the contrast between the silver body and the dark tinted glass really draw the eye! With that in mind it felt right to go big! We really wanted to make the most of all the RGB and show off some premium internals. We decided to go with black hardware to compliment the fans and interior walls of the case.

To keep things balanced we chose an Intel i9 14900K, ROG Strix RTX 4080 Super, with 32gb of V-Color Manta XSky RAM in chrome, this should blaze through anything thrown at it. The ROG Strix Z790-H Gaming Wifi motherboard, Montech Titan Gold 1000w power supply and Kingston Fury 2tb SSD will provide the backbone of the system and keep everything running smoothly. Keeping everything cool we have a ROG Ryujin II. It's the last generation of the cooler, but it is still a fantastic performer.

What Was It Like To Build In?

This was another simple build thanks to the masses of pre-installed and pre-cabled cooling support! It was as easy as stripping the case - undo the thumb screws on the side panels, pop them off - the top and front just pull off. On the PSU side of the case there is a hinged panel which requires removal of 2 screws to open. Once that was done it was on to the motherboard assembly, there was nothing outside of the normal here, then mount the motherboard in the case. The radiator bracket on the top is removable with 4 screws, but we found it easier to mount it with the bracket in situ.

Cable management was pretty straightforward, it’s a dual chambered case with plenty of space around the power supply for cable storage and there is a pre-velcroed channel to keep everything tidy. Even when using cable extensions it didn’t take more than 10 minutes to get everything in place and looking tidy.

Airflow

Though we tested the case in its standard, glass fronted configuration we were quite happy with the airflow. The intake fans on the side and the bottom keep a strong flow of cool air entering the case. The bottom fans kept the graphics card fed and the side intake pushed air towards the radiator. The combination of both also kept the motherboard heat shrouds well ventilated. The PSU was able to draw its own air from the side panel so we weren’t concerned with that!

Performance

Let us be frank, this build houses an Intel i9 14900K and an RTX 4080 Super, we shouldn’t be surprised that it can handle 1440p Ultra Wide on the highest graphics presets, with high frame rates. The important part as always is how it performs thermally, afterall the 14900K runs hot! So much so that we couldn’t run a CPU-Z stress test without the fans kicking up to max! With that said we were quite pleased with the results:

Ambient temp 18.8°C

Roundup

The collaboration between Montech and Gear Seekers has resulted in a welcome new take on one of the better curved glass cases you can buy. The choice to go with silver was brave but has paid off, it should indeed fit in regardless of your setup. It has optimum cooling for a liquid cooled set-up built in, and the included mesh front panel offers further options and should make the case an air cooling beast. Overall we enjoyed the build process, which didn’t differ much from the standard King 95, everything was simple and the design was well thought out. If you enjoy larger cases with curved glass this is a solid option!
